Mabon

March 18, 2014 by Caithe

MabonOstara Mabon Equinox Blessings

On March 21st, the Autumn Equinox occurs – when day and night are equal in length.  Known as Mabon (pronounced MAH-bon), it is when the God is within his Sage stage and approaches the end of his life.  He is preparing to leave his physical body and journey into the underworld.  During Samhain, he will rest until he is reborn as The Sun God at Yule.

During Mabon, the Goddess is in her Crone aspect as she prepares herself for her lover’s eventual demise.  Although saddened, she knows he lives on inside her.

Mabon is named after the Welsh God Mabon ap Modron – stolen three days after his birth and imprisoned.  He was rescued by King Arthur and became one of his companions.  His story symbolises hope, faith and loyalty.

Mabon represents the battle between day and night.  At the equinoxes, Lleu Llaw Gyffes (son of Arianrhod and the God of Light) and Gronw Pebr (God of Night) battle for supremacy.  At Mabon, Lleu is betrayed by his wife, Blodeuwedd.  Lleu is defeated and the days begin to become shorter.  This battle symbolises the cycle of rebirth.

Nature starts to enter its dormant phase, conserving energies as the days grow shorter.  It is the last of the harvests.  Mabon is also known as The Wine Harvest, Apple Harvest, Harvest Home, Witch’s Thanksgiving and Cornucopia.

‎To our Lord and Lady ~ Mother Earth, Father Sky

We seek your blessing as Mabon draws nigh

Giving our thanks for all you provide

For food, warmth, shelter and love supplied

We harvest our hopes, leave behind our fear

And listen closely, winter announces she is near.

Help us find our balance at core

Transform our light to flow and soar

Bless our homes, our friends, our hearth

Cycling gently with Gaia’s Wheel on Earth.

(Caithe Cameron)

The Historical Traditions of Mabon

The Second Harvest and the Autumn Equinox were celebrated by honouring the wise aspects of the Gods and Goddesses.  Celebrations provided welcome relief from the hard labour of harvesting.  It was considered to be an ideal time for finishing old business, exploring The Mysteries and focussing on equality.

Animals began their migration patterns while farmers and villagers readied their stocks for winter.  Produce was carefully preserved, wines were made, seeds and seed pods were stored for the coming months.  Magickal Herbs were picked and dried.  Houses were fixed and wood put aside.  All in preparation for the cold months approaching.

Offerings were made to harvested fields in recognition of its abundance.  It was believed Grain Spirits lived within the last sheaf of the harvest.  These were often dressed and decorated to resemble a man and then burned as a celebration of the sun’s gradual return.

Graves were honoured with offerings of seeds and seed pods.  This may have been especially prudent when heavy snowfall may have prevented people from visiting these sites during Samhain.

The Modern Traditions of Mabon

As a celebration of Crone energy, it is a very important time for considering your own spiritual growth.  Nurture and enrich yourself as a spiritual being of Wicca and as a child of The Goddess.

Walking through the forest, visiting cemeteries and collecting seed pods are worthwhile activities in modern times.  Picking pumpkins, harvest crafts and selecting a Harvest Queen and King are also popular across some Wiccan traditions.

As a time of community, you will notice Pagan Pride and International Women’s Days are often held in the month of March.  These help draw together like-minded people by acknowledging the connection between different people.

Although many of us no longer harvest our own fields, bounty can still be celebrated.  Food drives or contributing to a local charity reflect abundance.  Why not share your own abundance?

The crafting of God’s Eyes is sometimes associated with Mabon. (Remember those popsicles sticks with wool wound around them?)  Also known as an “Ojo de Dios”, the ancient symbol was originally made by the Huichol Indians of Mexico and the Aymara Indians of Bolivia.  It is believed to represent the dying Sun God and how he is always watching over us even if the sunlight hours grow shorter.  Spaniards took the tradition back to the European countries.

It is an ideal time to honour your shadow self by respecting and working through your emotions of sorrow, anger, mistrust and repressed feelings.  Expand your practical culinary skills by trying your hand at making pickles, chutneys or jams.

Mabon in Oz

Here in Australia, The season of Mabon brings cool mornings and warm, still days.  By some Aboriginal groups, it is called The Eel Season as they are fat and ready to harvest as they head out to sea for breeding.  The birds begin their migration patterns, the possums and dingos begin their breeding seasons. The skinks and tortoises begin their hibernation.  Red-tailed Black Cockatoos begin to chip away inside dead trees to create their nesting spaces.

The Manna or White or Ribbon Gum begins its flowering season.  You know these Eucalypts with their blazing white bark. At the base of their trunk, the bark seems to fall away in ribbons – hanging like the petals of a flower and the branches shooting straight into the air like a 40 metre tall stamen.

If the weather conditions are right, rainfall is a high possibility.  Autumn is known as the season of Fall – where the leaves fall from the trees. Here in South-East Queensland, very few trees lose their leaves.  The Black Bean or Moreton Bay Chestnut begins flowering (these beans are highly toxic causing diaorrhea and vomiting).  Velvet Leaf or Callicarpa bushes will slowly turn their inconspicuous, small, green berries a stunning, bright purple.  Brush Cherry trees are growing their edible pink and red fruits.

In gardens, the Banksia Bushes are flowering, as are the Easter May (a non-native tree).  The mulberry and gooseberry bushes are fruiting and will be ready to harvest in the coming weeks.

This is a season for getting out into the garden. The sun is not as hot and there is still some daylight in the early evening to weed, prune and sing to your plants.  It is a time to prepare some of the vegetable beds for their fallow time and prepare to plant the Winter Seeds.  It is also a time of nurturing the land of your home.

Of course, many will be celebrating the Christian celebration of Easter.  You may choose to follow both the energy of mass consciousness alongside your Mabon celebrations.  Do what feels right for you and your intention for being in connection with the cycle of time.  Easter can become just a fun time of sharing chocolate while Ostara can be something more profound.

As a season of rainfall, you may wish to work with water goddesses, the colours of the Manna Gum (silvery white, blue and pink) or the medicine of the Eel and the Possum.

Mabon provides an opportunity to:

] Initiate a food drive or assist a charity with theirs

] Participate in Clean Up Australia Day, International Women’s Day or Pagan Pride Day

] Pick apples in an orchard

] Complete a Gratitude List for your Reflective Journal

] Turn off the TV and tell stories!

] Complete an Autumn Clean in preparation for Winter

] Make apple candleholders and apple garlands

] Weave a God’s Eye (remember weaving wool around paddle pop sticks???)

] Make a scarecrow for your garden

] Make pickles, jams and preserves.

Clear Your Labels

March 18, 2014 by Caithe

Welcome!  This blog is a summary of the free energy clearing and healing session broadcast on Reflect Radio on March 18, 2014.

Clear Your Labels

On connection with Spirit, I received three songs:

  • Sadie the Cleaning Lady (performed by John Farnham)
  • Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves (performed by Cher)
  • Gonna Wash that Grey right out of my hair (Clairol commercial 1985)

The energy of these songs speaks to me of:

  • A clean sweep of energy
  • Clear your labels
  • Stress less

Labels, stress and logic are all human constructs.  They are designed to keep us in a state of limitation.  They limit your energy.

During the upcoming seven days, you may feel as if you are limited, lackadaisical, lost.  It’s worthwhile at this time to remember Goeth’s writing from the 1700’s – “At the moment of commitment, the Universe conspires to assist you.”

You may find your thoughts challenged this week by the concept of Universal Assistance.  Do you find yourself trying to exert force to MAKE something happen?  Why do you do this when the Universe is conspiring to assist you?

To conspire – in modern terms it means to come together secretly to create an unlawful act.  What if conspire means the Universe is secretly working WITH you rather than AGAINST you?

Everywhere you’ve chosen to be outside of the conspiracy in fear of energy being unlawful, fearful and awful, would you now choose to step into the Law of Attraction, the release of fear and being awe-filled? Reveal. Release. Reset. Revitalise.

What if chaos were the true state of energy?  Would energy be linear i.e. Straight?  What if straight lines and straight thinking were limiting?  This makes me think of the Crooked Forest in Poland where a small group of trees are all grew at a 90 degree angle

Let’s get into the Clear Your Labels clearing questions

What have you been sweeping under the mat until it’s become a mountain rather than a molehill?  This energy will ask you to cleanse and clear your labels without fear.  Remember: When fear comes up, it is excitement for change coming into being.  What would it take for turn fear into excitement?

What shifts are you ignoring to keep you in your comfort zone?  What shift in consciousness do you need to do and be as your choice today? Reveal. Release. Reset. Revitalise.

Labels limit energy.  What labels have you applied to put you in a neat little box that defies, limits and cramps your authentic self?  What if you are more than that?  What would it take to uncreate those limitations and accept your authentic self with open expression, love and ease? Reveal. Release. Reset. Revitalise.

You’ve chosen to clear your labels, step out of your comfort zone, now let’s choose to stress less!

In the path of Spirituality, it’s easy to step into a space of guilt around your life choices.  As life turns to difficulty, you may choose to say: I CHOSE this???? Sheesh!

Remember – the Universe is ready to assist.  Instead of every grey hair being a reminder of stress or times when you fought the flow of energy, what would it take for you to see times of stress as opportunities to step into Universal Assistance?

What if Universal Timing is not the true timing you are deciding?  What would it take to clear the decisions you’ve made about Universal Timing, stress and Universal Assistance and choose, instead, to BE the Universal Timing with ease? Reveal. Release. Reset. Revitalise.

May Luna Report

Luna Tick Diary

May 2013

The May Luna Report provides a summary of the astrologically significant events of May…

Eta Aquarids Meteor Showers – 5-6 May 2013 – – May Luna Report

This meteor shower is a result of the Earth passing through the debris of Halley’s Comet.  From our Earthly viewpoint, they start in the constellation of Aquarius – not a particularly bright constellation; but it is large and easily found.  The best viewing point for seeing this meteor shower is after midnight facing the East.  Astrologically, these meteors help you connect ideas together from the influences of Aries, Taurus and Gemini.  Aries is the awareness of what is right and light or heavy and unwanted.  Taurus prompts you to be patient, ponder and then pounce!  Gemini’s energy during this period speaks of the Spice Girls – “Tell me what you want, what you really, really want!”

A great astrological article about the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower can be found here: http://astroppm.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/eta-aquarids-2013-edition.html

New Moon in Taurus Annular Solar Eclipse – 10 May 2013 – May Luna Report

On May 10th, the Taurus New Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth creating a solar eclipse. Those who live in Western Australia, the tip of Northern Territory and Queensland and Papua New Guinea will gain the best views.  Where I live in Brisbane, the New Moon will only cover the Sun by 58%.  If you live in Queensland, the following website provides detailed information on viewing times: http://www.eclipse.aaq.org.au/index.php/eclipse-information/annular-solar-eclipse-10-may-2013

“How do you feel about those things that you are giving most of your attention to? If there is something in your life that gives you negative emotion almost every time you think about it, we would do anything that we could do to get that negative thing out of our awareness.”

 — Abraham

Energetically, Taurus speaks to your self-worth and your abundance-attracting ability.  If you are feeling a little under par, you may find this period quite daunting as doubts and frustration pile on top of one another.  Now is the perfect time to begin ANEW – a new budget, a new business plan, reviewing what you value in your life and doing something about it!  Don’t let the energetic turkeys get you down – mass consciousness can be like a farmyard. Everyone scrabbling for their superior position.  Instead, use the New Moon Energy to release, reset and reboot your life!

Sagittarius Full Moon and Penumbral Eclipse – 25 May, 2013  – May Luna Report

“Beam me back, Scotty!”

The full moon in Sagittarius is energy of positive, forward-looking fire, aiming directly at the goal. It is beneficial for blessing travel or to begin planning for travel.  It is a great time for study, planning, big ideas and a good time to start any type of journey or endeavour. It is a highly spiritual energy – like the incense filling a room with cleansing, smudging and new ideas.

This Full Moon and Eclipse is actually an ‘Alignment Anchor’ – especially for the Sagittarians and Geminis around you.  It asks you to Dream – Believe – Create in the present moment rather than looking into the future’s crystal ball.  You’ll see everything as being magnified and excessive – whether it is positive or falling into the Moon’s shadow aspects.  The bow and arrow of Sagittarius urges you to seek new ways of reaching your goals. This may mean having to use the bold and courageous energy of Sagittarius to stand up for what you believe to be true, right and light for YOU.

Magickal Full Moon Healing Activities – May Luna Report

Full Moon in Sagittarius is the best time to work magick for publications, legal matters, travel, and truth. Healing rituals for ailments of the liver, thighs, or hips are also done at this time.

Focus on your Solar Plexus during this Full Moon – keeping an eye on your diet, your personal expression of power and also the venting of excess emotion.

March Luna Tick Diary

February 20, 2013 by Caithe

Luna Tick DiaryMarch 2013

Feel the Rhythm of the Marching Waves – the March Luna Tick Diary for March

Namasté and Fàilte (welcome) to the month of March named after the Roman Warrior God Mars.  In the original Roman Calendar, March represented the beginning of Spring.  The sun warmed the Earth, the fields were less muddy and the food was plentiful.  An excellent time to begin the long battles and campaigns planned during the cooler months.

Whether you are entering Spring or Autumn, Mars ‘strides forward’ during March – urging you to challenge your own illusions, perceptions and arise as a Truth-Seeker. This is the energy of going boldly where you haven’t gone before!

Interestingly, this month is also assoicated with the astrological signs of Pisces Peacemakers and Aries Enactors (Aries is a Greek God also known as Mars!).  With energies strong, forceful and almost sneaky in their vibration, you have a choice of standing still, fighting the flow or allowing the currents take you where you need to go.

During 10 – 24 March, you have a ‘once in a civilisation’ opportunity to view a new visitor to our solar system. The origins of the comet are unknown although speculation abounds as to whether it comes from the original ‘Big Bang’.  As I write this, there is no name given to the comet although astronomers are stating the comet may possibly shine brighter than a full moon in the night time sky.  I wanted to name the comet ‘Sheldon’ as it will be knocking on your door.  Although some cultures view comets as ‘bringers of change’ (and not in a good way), Comet Unknown is here to help you wake up and SHINE.  Imagine the comet as the Silver Surfer – either catch and ride the wave or end up feeling incredibly uncomfortable as you try to get the sand out of your bathers.

Next, you will see the New Moon in Pisces begin to shine on 12th March.  You may feel a little sluggish, low and just wanting to take a break.  Like the Pisces Fish themselves, you may just want to rest and relax if you can – especially if Comet ‘Sheldon’ has you wearily wondering just what in heck will meet you when you open that door .  Pisces Moon encourages you to explore deep spiritual truths, the unknown, the depths of emotion.  Observe your own empotional depth – try to stay in the calm shallows and keep your head above water when you can!  Although you may wish to dig out your dirty laundry and wash it in Pisces’ waters, all you may end up doing is creating extra work for yourself. Instead, open the door and invite the energy in.  The cleansing action of the New Moon will illuminate, clear and release with ease – if you let it!

Keywords: Ebb and flow, completion, zero point, illuminate

Suggested Activity: Complete a project long overdue and then spend the rest of your day relaxing.  Help those emotions flow by reading a juicy novel, watching a tissue-grabbing movie, having a massage or going for a gentle walk on grassy fields.

March 20th-21st heralds the Equinox. This is a time of balance where day and night are equal.  Celebrate the turn of the seasonal wheel with Ostara in the Northern Hemipshere and Mabon in the Southern Hemipshere.

‎Equinox Blessings to you and yours

To our Lord and Lady ~ Mother Earth, Father Sky

We seek your blessing as this Equinox draws nigh

We proclaim our thanks for all you provide

For food, warmth, shelter, love supplied

Guide us swiftly to find our balance at core

Transform our light to flow and soar

Bless our homes, our friends, our hearth

Cycling gently with Gaia’s Wheel on Earth.

Within the Celtic Pantheon, March calls on Teutates (ancient Celtic God of wealth, war and abundance) and The Morrigan (Celtic Goddess of birth, death and battle).  Both dieties encourage seeking out new ground and finding the balance within.  Try to wake with the dawn and balance your activities throughout the day with equal amounts of work, rest and play.

The Full Moon in Libra reaches its zenith 26th -27th March.  You may feel as if you are being weighed, measured and adjusted as Libra’s Venus energy seeks spiritual and physical alignment.

With the Silver Surfer comet leaving the night sky only days before, this full moon provides a maximum ride opportunity.  Creative flow and communication will be heightened.  Be aware of Drama Queen energy running around as scales are balanced, anxieties arise and blood pressure goes through the roof. Keep your cool in the midst of all the crashing waves going on around you.  Remember the advice Bambi’s mother once said: “If you cannot say something nice, say nothing at all!”

Keywords: justice, balance, symmetry, socialising, diplomacy.

Suggested activities: Focussed healing for sacral chakra, skin and adrenal glands; set out your intentions for your relationships and partnerships; join a professional network or find a group of like-minded people; notice and appreciate the miracles around you; be the ‘voice of reason’ diplomatically, of course!

As you can see, March’s energy promises some wonderful opportunities to release and awaken.  Keep your awareness open and your ‘energetic surfboard’ ready  Ride the wave, dude!
